There are so many die cut products out there today that you don't even realize what you are using is a die cut product. For instance the IPOD has a plastic outer shell. A gasket is a die cut product that is used to create a compressed seal between two metal objects that are similar but not exact. One of the many uses is in automobiles. Look at your keyboard and screen, most objects are now plastic and not metal because it is less expensive to make die cut products that are plastic than metal.Back To Top^

First of all Mylar is just a registered name that is owned by Dupont Tejjin Films for a specific family of plastic sheet products made from the resin Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). The actual generic term for this material is simply Polyester Film or Plastic Sheet. I have seen other industry people use the term Mylar differently relating to their own industry. The reason for this is that there are many different types and grades of Mylar.So with that in mind, I came across a spider man die cut mylar balloon. Do you know that those little balloons that come in gift baskets and arrangements are mostly made out of a thin layer of die cut Mylar. Do you have a set of speakers. Well there is a good chance if they are a quality speaker that the diaphragm is made from die cut Mylar. Emergency helicopters also use Mylar blankets for people suffering from hypothermia, a disease created by extended long periods of low temperatures. Die cut Mylar can be aluminized.Back To Top^

Polyester is actually derived from an entire family of polymers, which are a organized repeating chain of atoms of monomers. This is combined with an ester, which is what happens when alcohol is combined with acid to form the reaction. PET or Polyethylene terephthalate is a plastic resin which comes from the polyester family and is used to make glasses, mugs, cups, saucers, and other various household items. Polyester is then die cut off a plastic sheet to form the appropriate said item. Also, food containers are often made out of this substance.
